My first few.

My first attempts at making some 6mm fantasy characters, I felt there was a couple of models I had seen and liked in 15mm or even 28mm that I couldn't find a good analogue for amongst the existing ranges.
So I tried making them myself.
While not really reaching the standard I had set for myself, I'll have to view them as a step along the way.

The full group of five, with bases color-coded for ease of identifying allegiance.

The biggest group is my far-eastern warband, 5 models strong with reddish brown bases. I couldn't find any good far eastern-looking minis at all, Irregulars samurai range was all there was, and a bit blobby-looking I thought.

Ping, one of the two monks of the warband, carrying his quarterstaff. He and his brother monk comes from a martial monastery high in the eastern mountains, where they train to master their deadly art.

Lin, the other monk. He wields a heavy polearm.

The unoffical leader, Yun-lo is a eastern sorcerer, both feared and respected in his homeland. He travels west in search of legendary artifacts, said to give their holder great power and possibly immortality..

Toramaru, a skilled warrior hiring on as a bodyguard to Yun-lo. He has his own motives for traveling west, searching for answers to questions few dare ask.

Finally the last member of the warband, Taka. Raised in an secretive cult, the red mage knows of many mysteries in this world and the many others he's glimpsed.

Not a warband in their own right, the 2 warriors of the desert are often hiring on to help caravans navigate their deserts, or as common sellswords for those who can afford their price.

The last three are all characters that will fill out my available choices for warbands as well as dungeoncrawls:

A paladin of dark gods, protected as much by his plate as by the favor of his gods. He is sent to do their bidding and thus far he has never failed..

While hardly original in his choice of outfit, Shadow is a assassin known to get the job done. His daggers and poisons are always available, for a price, of course.

Armed with a sabre and plenty of confidence, Jann stalks the night. The blade is mostly for show, because if he does his job right, he won't need it.

That was the lot, it was a good learing experience making them, and for a first attempt they'll have to do. I have a few more ideas of characters I'd like to make, not only fantasy, but a few space opera and regular sci-fi ones as well. If I do, I'll show you the fruits of my labors!

Til next time!

A fight over a Henge

Lots going on right now, and so I almost forgot to post my pics from the latest playtest of my homebrew fantasy rules. Today that will be amended however!

Aiming to try out a few tweaks to the armor and magic system as well as testing out rules for blackpowder weapons, we set our warbands to task.

The battlefield, with the henge most of the battle will revolve around.

Men of the Ashen wastes, complete with summoned demons.

My opponent's Dwarf warband with the stand-in chief as we are waiting for the real one to arrive from across the pond.

 The initial surge forward.

First combat is fought.

The larger of the two demons sneaking around the fight, no doubt up to something..

The Warlord, along with a lesser demon and a warrior fights against 2 dwarf veterans and a musketeer.

The demon charges.

Heavy fighting on the left side, the warrior is vanquished, but so is a dwarven veteran!

The dwarf get's the better of the foul hell-spawn, sending it back in a cloud of smoke and flame.

A particularly well-aimed bolt of magic energy hits this musketeer, leaving him with only 1 hp!

Several more turns are fought, off camera the greater demon knocks out both warchief and runepriest, leaving the dwarves in a bit of a bind.

The dwarf warband wisely calls a retreat, vowing revenge on their enemies.

Progress with the rules is somewhat slow, mostly because I'm too scatterbrained to focus on it for long periods of time. We both agreed that defensive values were still a bit on the high side, so we'll try to amend that for next time. I'm tempted to poke around a bit in the magic system as well, but I might hold off until said defensive values have been tweaked.

In the near future there will be some more fantasy as I just finished painting a small warband of models I sculpted myself.
I have also been working on a few 3mm sci-fi items, some terrain and whatnot. The next unit for my Warg force are painted up, awaiting bases.

Til next time!

Starstrike playtest 5

After the vehicle rules and the points system were modified, I wanted to try an all vehicle engagement. Prefering mecha to tanks, I set up two teams of mechs in a forested area.

The forces.

Green Mecha:
Troopers 3 units
Sp 8
Su 8
Ta +1
Se +2
Sa 6
Crew
Tr 5
Di 6
Autocannon
Power-gauntlet
118 points/unit

Support mech 1 unit
Sp 8
Su 8
Ta +1
Se +2
Sa 6
Crew
Tr 5
Di 6
Autocannon
Rocket launcher
Power-gauntlet
160 points

Bazooka trooper 1 unit
Sp 8
Su 8
Ta +1
Se +2
Sa 6
Crew
Tr 5
Di 6
Rocket launcher
Power-gauntlet
137 points

Tan Mecha:

Fat Boy 5 units
Sp 6
Su 10
Ta +1
Se +2
Sa 6
Crew
Tr 5
Di 6
Autocannon
Power-gauntlet
131 points/unit

Both sides fairly equal( Green 651 Tan 655), the stage was set for a battle:

The two forces line up to face each other.

The first round saw some movement and a scattered shot or two, but to little effect.

First blood went to the green mecha, when a blast of autocannon fire took out the rightmost tan mecha. Not only did it go down, it exploded in a brilliant blast, hitting it's comrade. In a horrible turn of luck the second mecha gets wrecked by the explosion as well!

Return-fire skids of the hull of a green mecha.

Start of turn 3.

Focusing his attack on the agressor, the tan mecha gets hit by returning auto-cannon fire, knocking off some of the hull.

With another brilliant explosion, the green support mecha blows up. Thankfully his squadmate is far enough away to stay clear.

Start of turn 4

Sneaking around the perimiter, one of the tan mecha's draw a bead on the green mecha. A burst later the opposing mech is immobilized, its legs irreparably damaged.

On the right side of the battlefield the team of green mechs keep firing on the tan mecha in the forest across the field, knocking off parts of it's hull.

In what prooved to be a foolish manouver, the bazooka mech zoomed forward to get into assault range. Instead, the reaction-fire of his enemy manages to not only hit, but blow him to pieces!

Over on the left side, the immobilized mecha's number was up, the fire from two enemies finally putting him down.

Start of turn 5

Swinging around the bushes to fire on another enemy, the tan mecha takes some incoming fire, blowing him to pieces.

Start of turn 6, the last turn.

Hoping to force a decisive blow, one green mecha storms into close combat..

..But he is bested by the heavier opponents blows.

The second tan mecha charges into the forest, hoping to take the last green mech by surprise. He is not fast enough though, as he enters combat he is quickly beaten down, his mech wrecked.

At the end of the day, 1 mecha remain on each side.

A draw!

The amended vehicle rules felt better than before, now vehicle combat matches the deadliness of the infantry. The points system feels about right, no force felt superior to the other.

My sculpting of 6mm models continue, but soon I will start painting again. I have a fantasy AAR with the dwarfs to share in the coming days as well. Soon I hope to be back to my regular level of activity!

Til next time.

Stunties, and some mecha

Lately I've been busy trying to learn sculpting, both digital and otherwise. Progress is slow, and it takes up a lot of my time, but I'm ever so slowly getting better. I also started to build a 3D-printer with a friend, leaving even less time for painting..

Some things I have managed however, and I thought I'd share a few now:

The beginnings of a Dwarf Warband I started putting together for my friend.

The Clan chief, with his adamantine hammer and family shield.

A rune-priest, acting as spiritual council and right hand to the chief.

The veteran warriors have fought many battles by their chief's side, and toasted to an equal amount of victories.

Dwarven musketeers stand apart from most other missile troops. Trained to use the dangerous and somewhat unpredictable blackpowder muskets, these musketeers rain lead onto the enemy.

I also have a few mecha that featured in a recent all-armour battle of Starstrike:

The green mecha, painted up to match their source of inspiration.

The tan mecha, with a pj also inspired by a certain show.

Lastly I thought I'd share a WIP from my sculpting efforts:

A poor angle for the little guy, he stands about 7mm tall, so he ended up a bit taller than intended. The mech is the first of what will hopefully be a full squad, if I can manage to replicate the look..

That's all I had for you right now, but there's 2 AAR's waiting in the wings, and hopefully a few successful sculpts for the warband I'm trying to make!

Til next time!
